What is the difference between Sacrifice and Compromise?
I often come across this question whenever I am gonna make some critical decision making forgoing something for another, in hard times. There are times when we want to get the things done in a particular way, but it goes in some other. Many a times we accept the happenings in short term and move ahead for the better one in long term but for which we are not sure of happening....what’s this...Sacrifice or Compromise???
Can sacrifice done in steps to achieve something which couldn’t be achieved due to some reasons, lead to compromise in long term?
Is Sacrifice more of a short term and Compromise a long term phenomenon?
There are many such questions and reasoning. I tried finding answer to this to some of my friends and here are their views. It’s striking that all have different views, though there are some funny ones also.

Parasuram Comments:
Compromise is something which we do without wish whereas Sacrifice is something which we wish very much but couldn’t do. Continuous sacrifice lead u to get into the habit of compromise.
When it was asked to him that wat’s d way out to avoid Compromise in long term while doing sacrifice in short term, he says that “u kno wat to sacrifice on. and wat nt to sacrifice”. He further speaks that we can sacrifice on the taste of mess food but if we try sacrifice on its hygiene factors then we can compromise on any kind of food!!!

Shreya Comments:I love Viks tat is sacrifice; but Viks love me is compromise :)
Compromise v do 4 others happinesswhere as sacrifice v do 4 our happiness

Digvijay Comments:
“ agar koi tera rumie banane ke liye raazi ho jaye to woh hua compromise...
aur agar koi suri ka rumie banane ke liye raazi ho jaye to woh hua sacrifice” (If somebody wanna be ur roomie, it’s compromise and if somebody wanna roomie of SURI – my classmate, it’s sacricice)

Anuj Sood Comments:
Compromise may not be the loss for one side but acceptable to both the parties, sacrifice is more intense word. Sacrifice can be done to one you love or respect, while compromise is with someone of equal status as in biz deals.
On asking can continuous sacrifice leads to compromise he denies the statement.

Tarun Mathur Comments:

Sacrifice is to give up something that under favourable circumstances u would never have but compromise is to settle for less than what u bargained for
Mukul: Can continuous sacrifice lead u to get into the habit of compromise?

Tarun: ya...most definitely
Mukul: how can it be avoided....i mean how can a compromise be avoided in long run if sacrifices have to be made in short term
Tarun: only if u make the other person realize that u have actually sacrificed
Mukul: If that’s difficult to do?
Tarun: It may be difficult but tat is imp...people otherwise will take ur sacrifices for granted
Mukul: If disclosing is impossible?
Tarun: Then always sacrifice J

Brother, Please google it!!!!

Deepak Comments:Sacrifice is you completely let the benefit go withour taking ur personal gain into account where as.. in compromise... u decide to divide the spoils based on competitive position of u and opposing party...
this is my idea:)

No, continuous sacrifice cannot lead u to get into the habit of compromise. But i think .. vice-versa can be true. Continuous compormise will make u more liberal and let u forget ur self interests. To avoid it..... you should be prudent enough to decide what is right nd wrong for u... rather that always be compromising situation..
u will be always aware of compromising situation.. as u r forgoing something which should be in ur court due to ur inability to achieve the desired result

After having all these comments, it’s very clear that it’s a subjective topic and depends on the situation. I am still in search of some concrete difference......

  1. Hey..nice thought mukul..heres what i think...a sacrifice is where you totally forgo the thing you wanted whereas a compromise is when you settle for a lesser alternative. Thus a sacrifice can be considered to be a superset of a compromise (being an engineer..have to route everything through maths..sorry for that)

  2. Nice topic to introspect.. :) .. I feel.. both are same in nature only difference lies in the feeling u get after making the decision..

After sacrifice one feels gr8 sense of achievement while after compromise one gets feeling of losing something to someone else..
